October 2019 | Cold Spring & Peekskill, NY
What an adventure we had on this Fall HikeDay!! For this one we took advantage of two locations. First we trekked through Cold Spring and then headed to Peekskill, NY for dinner and Happy Hour at the Peekskill Brewery.
After we arrived in Cold Spring, we jumped off the train with enthusiasm and excitement, perhaps too much excitement - for we started the hike about 3 times before we found the trail we really wanted! The hike, to quote AllTrials, was a “moderate trail” that included a trek up about 1400 ft to the Bull Hill where we espied a glimpse of the New York City skyline from 53 miles away. When we finally reached the peak of our hike we did some light asana, meditation, breathwork, and ate all the snacks we’d packed.

Unfortunately the weather was cloudy and was not collaborating for such a view.

Wow! What a blast we had in Guatemala. It’s taken some time to adjust back to NYC life, but we are doing so with a new sense of self, and still flowing with the enthusiasm and rewards from our retreat. We were so thrilled to go back and once again partner up with the majestic Isla Verde Retreat Center. From the mountainous and Volcanic surroundings, to the flowers hanging over Isle Verde's open-air yoga shala and to the deep-blue water of Lake Atitlan, we were impressed and in awe of its beauty.

Our third HikeDay was a blast. This hike we chose to head to Poughkeepsie, NY. This turned out to be a 8-9mile day where we tackled various terrain. The start and the closing of the hike was we walking over the longest bridge in the world “Walkway over the Hudson” build all the way back in 1889. Once off the Bridge we trekked a few more miles through Franny Reese State Park with the fresh fall foliage covering our path with newly fallen leaves. It was gorgeous. Closing out the day with delicious food and libations at Mahoney’s Irish Pub inside the old Vassar Brewery.

Our team demonstrated a real sense of adventure as we traversed the week on horseback, boat, bus and foot. From the infamous "tribe building exercises" to howling at the moon our group sealed a bond almost immediately. But that's partly what a TYA adventure is all about.

Preparing for this retreat we kept reading this place was "Eden on Earth" and to be honest we were skeptical. But after the first day we began to experience just why it's been given this name. From the mountainous and Volcanic surroundings, to the flowers hanging over Isle Verde's open-air yoga shala and to the deep-blue water of Lake Atitlan, we were impressed and in awe of its beauty.

Zander and I decided to give people the opportunity to experience a Digital Detox and "disconnect to reconnect" through a long weekend in the beautiful landscapes of upstate New York. This was a smashing success.
