Why Practice Gratitude?

The No Bullsh*t Series is back!! Words and language are important. These posts are meant to break-down some seemingly big concepts into simple and easy language that will hopefully help you bring these ideas into life.

Our word this week is GRATITUDE!

Definition:

GRATITUDE(noun) the quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful
syn: thanks, thankfulness, appreciation, gratefulness.

Gratitude is literally the key that opens the door to all other virtues. Everything good from compassion, to love, abundance, courage, responsibility…etc.  The simple act of appreciating all that shows up in your life and saying out loud or on the inside your head “thank you” will shift your entire perspective to one of openness and acceptance.  Without“Thank you” our minds typically steps forward with all its expectations, labels, judgements…etc preventing any growth or understanding as our ego tries to fit a square into a circle. Functioning without gratitude leaves us experiencing the same old results.

QUOTE

Here’s what stoic philosopher Seneca has to say about gratitude:

“True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future, not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears but to rest satisfied with what we have, which is sufficient, for he that is so wants nothing. The greatest blessings of mankind are within us and within our reach.  A wise man is content with his lot, whatever it may be, without wishing for what he has not.”  ~Seneca

Transformative Tool: Try this for a week and feel your appreciation grow.

“What went well today and why?”

This exercise is best completed at the end of the day. Simply jot down 3-5 moments of your day that went well today and then ask why? From the mundane to the extraordinary makes no difference, write it down there are not wrong answers. Start by doing this for a week and if you love it, keep going. This tool will rewire your mind and have you searching for the good in all things instead of the negative

A Helpful Yoga Pose: Half Pigeon

When you hit your mat this week practice appreciation when deepening your half pigeon or another pose whose intensity is a big challenge.

Our hips can be extremely tight and half-pigeon will reveal just how much. BUT instead of battling and resisting this opportunity greet it with some loving gratitude and watch how this simple mind shift will change your experience.

Have a great week.  If you have any questions or are in need help when you get stuck, shoot me a message.

Thank you for your time and feedback.
